Living an Animated Life

In preparation for the new Simpsons movie coming out at the end of the month, Hollywood has remodeled twelve 7-Eleven Convenience stores into a caricatures of the Simpson's Kwik-E-Mart.

I was intrigued because the marts offer actual food items for sale that are on the Simpson's. There are boxes of KrustyO's cereal, Buzz Cola, pink doughnuts, special edition "Radioactive Man" comic books and the traditional "Slurpee" frozen drink is now the "Squishee". Well-I should say these items are offered but there is no guarantee the Kwik-E-Mart near you will still have the items in stock. The only items available on my visit was a "Squishee" and a doughnut. The doughnuts are hilarious with their bright pink icing and multi-colored sprinkles. My favorite thing was probably the Styro-Foam ice chest with Kwik-E-Mart logo.


What an excellent idea for a movie promotion. For product promotion, movie companies have started to do more than just add a new product into a movie or TV show. Harry Potter is another example of having a "movie food" (can I coin that phrase?) come into reality with the movie's "Bertie Bott's Beans" available from Jelly Belly. Have you seen these? Or better yet have you tasted them? The flavors include: snot, grass, rotten egg, vomit, earthworm...to only name a few!

Another example of real life movie food is "Bubba Gump Shrimp" restaurants opened after the 1994 Forest Gump movie. There are now 21 restaurants/outlets in the US and 7 abroad.

I think so far the best idea is the Kwik-E-Marts. People are really having fun with the idea and "eating" everything up! If you are a Simpson's fan you can't help but feel like you get the inside joke. The Kwik-E-Marts will be open through the month of July.
